Induction Day 4 + 5

27/08/2011

Well, since the last two days were really active and busy, I did not get time to actually write on those days on my experience. Here is a quick post on what went on.

Day 4: We covered the actual selling part of the training…and you know what, it was the shorted part. This is why I like my job. Sure, I work in retail, and when you pick it apart I am a sale’s person. But, unlike a lot, I am not pushing someone to buy something. Pretty much everyone I talk to is coming in to get it already. And, since I am not commission or anything, I really could care less what you get. Accept, I do care…I don’t want you to take home something, come back, and complain that I actually let you get something like that. I want you to be happy. I love technology with a passion, bordering obsession…and I kind of want you to feel the same, even if it is only one piece of technology.

After class we all chilled out by the pool, relaxed, asked each other induction questions as a bit of studying, and then went and got some food. While we ate, we talked more, a bit on the classes, and everything else that came to mind. It was the last full day that we all got to spend time with each other, since day 5 was our last day.

After food, and boy was it good, a few of us chilled out in the hot tub for some more studying, and then went back to one of the hotel rooms for…guess what, more studying. Day 5 was also to be the test day, we all wanted to be prepared.

Day 5: The first half of class we went over the final stage of the training, which is to actually set the client up with everything. We want you to know how to do everything you want to do, make sure it all works, and that when you walk out the doors you can call your friend, send him a text, facebook…whatever your into. We ate a quick lunch, and then took the test. I did very well. Then went over some final things. And were let go…

For the remainder of the day we were constantly saying good by…At the hotel…first airport and restaurant there…Some of us has the same first connecting flight, so got to spend a bit more time…then some more byes, then one last flight for me, all alone.

Writing this out it kinda sucks…I wish I could have spent more time with pretty much everyone. It’s amazing how a simple week we can get to be so comfortable with everyone, and become friends. I’m not saying anything like best or whatnot, but I really did enjoy the time I spend with everyone.

I am not at home, its the next day…you could say day 6 I guess, since really, I have been spending the whole day thinking on the past week…The classes, activities, what I need to do at work when I go in today with my papers…and the people.

Induction: Day 3

25/08/2011

Wow, am I fucking tired. It’s the end of day 3 of my induction training…well, its past midnight, so you could say it is going on day 4…Anyways, I just got back from a small gathering of some of the other induction members, about 6 of us, much smaller then the other get together which included more then half of our 22 class. Having a smaller gathering was nice, since it was a lot calmer, and more of us talker better together, instead of it all just being a loud shit show…haha.

During training today we went of demoing devices, which was awesome. Its cool to see how passionate the other members are about there technologies, and how wide our range of knowledge and likes are. Stuff from what a basic feature phone could do, to favorite apps, to just how customizable phones are these days. Amazing.

I didn’t realize till just a moment ago that I did not order any food or anything today. Kind of a bummer, since now I wont have any left overs for lunch…lol. I just ate my left over chinese for both lunch and dinner.

Someone proposed the idea of having everyone gather at the pool tomorrow, and order tons of different foods, and share, kind of like a bring your own dish thing. I like the idea, and we plan on mentioning it to the rest of the class, since tomorrow is the last night we will have together, since the flights all leave on Friday afternoon and night.

A couple of us Michigan group members mentioned trying to get together in the future, which would be awesome, as we aren’t spread out that much. I would really like that, as I have liked everyone. No jerks or anything in our group.

Well, off to bed…since its about 2 hours past when I usually go to sleep…Have some red bulls to keep me running during class tomorrow…hope I don’t have to use them…

Induction: Day 1

23/08/2011

I am hungry for some Doritos…That is the main thing going through my mind.

Today was the first day of my Induction training for Best Buy Mobile and I have to say I am enjoying myself very much. I learned quite a bit, not just about Mobile, but about Best Buys history in general. I had a feeling that this week would just be a bunch of information that I knew already, as I have been working for Best Buy for almost 3 years now, and in the Mobile dept for the last month+, but I have learned a lot. The history is pretty cool, as well as the info on how we do things differently from the other departments in the store, and why they work better for us.

After class a large portion of the group hung out, and it was really cool to get to know the people better. We talked about a ton of stuff, from work issues to bbq. Very happy to be here.

I am going to keep this short, since I need to be up in 6 hours for class. May add some more to it later.

Halo 3. ODST Midnight Release

22/09/2009

Well, in case you didn’t know this I work over at the Best Buy in Saginaw, MI. Great store, great friends, and all around fun place. Last night I had the opportunity to work during the midnight release of Halo 3: ODST. By 10pm we had a nice line outside our doors. It was cool.

We had a small contest as well, giving ten fans the chance to fight it out (1 on 1, Halo 3) for the chance of a free copy of the game. Took awhile longer then we thought, but still, it was awesome. Everything went great except for when player 4 decided to get on top of the map. Two “Get off”‘s later he lost, the final fight netting player 9 win the game. Very sweet.

I can’t wait for the chance to work another midnight release. COD5 comes out soon…Yay.

If you wanna see a picture with the Best Buy crew and the winner, stop on by the store some time, we have it playing on the TV near the front.

Now to wait a few more days to get the game myself!
