So, after wiping my computer I decided I would install Windows 8, and give it a go. Everything worked great, until I took my Asus over to my campus at SVSU, and wanted to connect to the web.

My campus, and a lot of others require you to install a program called Safe Connect, in order to access their network. They make Mac’s and Window’s do this. Safe connect is not compatible with Windows 8 yet…so I was at a issue…After browsing sites trying to see if there was a compatibility fix for this, and finding nothing, I decided to go another route… Bypass Safe Connect all together.

After browsing some more I was led to an article by St. John Johnson, that gave some guides and programs that could be used…But still, this wasn’t going to help me, since I had no way to get the actual programs downloaded without a internet connection in the first place. But, after browsing through the comments I found a small post saying how to spoof the user agent using Google Chrome, to trick the schools network into thinking my laptop was a Playstation 3…which does not require the install of Safe Connect to access the network.

So, it is very easy for you to do this, but their is the requirement to get something that will allow you to spoof your user agent…I use Google Chrome, so already had it installed…and out of the ways I have seen it is by far the easiest way to do it…

Create a shortcut on your desktop to Google Chrome, and right click on it, and access the properties. In the “target” box, add the following to the end,

--user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (PLAYSTATION 3 2.00)"</code.

Don't forget the space at the beginning. Click apply, and close the properties. Now, when you connect to your campus's network, make sure to open the internet using this shortcut first. Once you do that and open a test page, you can then close out and re-open Google Chrome using your normal link. The reason I say this is that some websites change their page layout when viewing from the PS3, such as Facebook. But once you connect for the first time (every time you access the campus network) it saves your user agent, and you can then use a different one.

Thank you commentor UCLA, for putting the string needed to easily change my user agent using Chrome...saved me a lot of frustration!

And yes...this can be used on any version of Windows, if you don't want to install Safe Connect...Not just Windows 8.

So, I am sitting on a upgrade that, a month ago, I was dying to have. For a month straight I was convinced I was going to pony up, bite the bullet, and switch over to the dark side, and by that I mean go from android to apple. But, after waiting for the last month to pass, and my upgrade to post, I have decided I just can’t to it. Even with jailbreaking and customizing, the Iphone just doesn’t come anywhere near what I want to do with my phone. Android does.

From that note, I am very disappointed in Sprint. No up to date Android devices have been released recently, and I am not going to waste a upgrade on a product that is several months old. I like the suspense of release day, the bugs, the glitches, and being one of the first to have the device rooted and customized, even tho I am just a follower and do not do any of the leg work to get that to happen.

Rumor has it that the Galaxy Nexus by Google will be coming to Sprint this year, when they hit the switch on LTE. But…yet again…even with the “release” of it, it will be months old…Not my idea of a new phone.

I guess I wait…and wait…The news says 15 new devices for Sprint this year, all running 4G chips. Maybe HTC will surprise me…They are my manufacturer of choice…

Well…that was one of the fastest breaks I have ever had…really…spend a majority of it working…But I guess that is good, as I will be getting paid for it…And with hours dropping I will have more time to enjoy my life.

Spend around $300 on books this semester…not bad seeing as I should be getting a bit over $100 back soon for selling last semesters books…And I will prob get $100 back again…Not to mention the fact that I still have my excess aid coming soon…But that, that is already spent…Put away for rent, utilities, and car insurance. I hate planning ahead, stops me from living in the moment. But I really don’t want to go through the stress I did last year, worrying I may loose my car and stuff.

I am taking 4 classes this semester, total of 14 credit hours this semester…Would have preferred to take 3 classes for 12 but the ones I wanted filled before my registration date…Guess I will take 12 next semester.

Today I had my first three, which will repeat again on Wednesdays. History, Math, and Intro to Management…The math class is the only class I actually and required to take, along with the Intro to Mechanical engineering I am taking on Thursday nights. The other two are just fillers, but I picked them because I am actually interested in the subjects. The history is Western Civ, so that will be cool, and I figured the Management class will come in handy later on in life, pretty much wherever I go career wise.
